Pelican Brief

I'm not sure whether I've mentioned this, but I'm in the thick of preparing to open my own interiors-shop-slash-design-service (I have sooo much to learn about inventory and mark-ups and all sorts of sexy business talk like that) and as such I'm slowly building up different kinds of product categories that I want to sell. Including my latest obsession: vintage brass trinket boxes. In the shape of animals, obvi. Like this guy who recently arrived via Etsy; a cool bird who could hold your dimes or your breath mints. Isn't he a charmer?

I'm doing loads of research on owning a small business as well as on vintage and wholesale sources, so it was incredibly thoughtful when John returned from a recent trip to San Francisco with a book he thought might help me. As many of you know, not a week goes by that I don't cover something in kantha—bench, cot, blinds, beds, chairs, cats—and John figured I might want to learn more about all the different textiles that hail from the Rann of Kutch to the Coromandel Coast. (This might have something to do with his fear that I'll wake up one morning loathing the very mention of the word kantha, but I doubt that will happen. They're like tasty candy to my eyes; the colorful crack I crave.) The book is totally fascinating and inspiring, while at the same time filling my head to the brim with dreams of traveling there one day.
